Answer the following question: What can you tell about the graph of a quadratic function based on the roots you get from solving the quadratic formula for that equation?

Answer: If you get 2 different real roots then there are 2 x-intercepts, if there is 2 equal real roots there is 1 x-intercept, if there are 2 complex roots then there are no x-intercepts.
