Task 1
The roots of a quadratic function can tell you where the parabola lies in relation to the x-axis. If there are two different real roots, the graph has two different x-intercepts. If there are two equal real roots, the vertex of the graph must be on the x-axis. If there are two different non-real roots, the graph never touches the x-axis.
Task 2
Looking at an exponential equation it is easy to figure out the range. The only two things that affect the range are the vertical translation, and the vertical stretch. The maximum or minimum of the range is the same as the horizontal asymptote. It starts at zero, and if there is a vertical translation it changes (remember to switch the signs from transformational form). The range will either be greater or less than the horizontal asymptote, depending on the vertical stretch. If the stretch is negative, then there is a reflection, and all the y values will be less than the horizontal asymptote. If there is no reflection (the stretch is positive) then the y values will continue infinitely above the horizontal asymptote.
